Fine Silver Kilo Coin – Modern Canada (2009)
These unprecedented coins captured the attention of the numismatic world when they were first issued two years ago. This year's coins featured a design created by the Vancouver Organizing Committee design team to .celebrate a contemporary Canada that will host the Vancouver 2010Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
Transformation and fusion are at the soul of Vancouver, a place where nature and culture are in a constant state of change and growth. Water, in all its forms, is everywhere. It nourishes, cleanses and gives beauty to the province’s ever-changing Sea-to-Sky region—and to all of Canada. Across the country, towns and cities reflect the same energy as their natural environments and cultures from around the world come together in a fusion of fresh ideas and possibilities.
Highlights: This coin sets itself apart from its historic predecessors with a distinctive design engraved in ultra-high relief normally seen in metallic art. Each coin measures an astounding 101.6 mm (4 in) in diameter and containsone kilogram of fine silver or gold—guaranteed!
Reverse: In a style consistent with the Vancouver 2010 Look of the Games, graphic elements capture the spirit of Vancouver 2010 and the unique character of the host region.
