More than 120 corvettes were built to become the guardians of the North Atlantic escorting convoys and attacking submarines that had so threatened the fledgling navy during the First World War.

His/Her Majesty's Canadian Ship (HMCS) Sackville was one of the original 1939-40 Flower Class corvettes ordered for the RCN. She was built at Saint John (New Brunswick) and entered service in December 1941. The corvette class, with 122 built in Canada by war's end, had elevated the RCN to the third largest navy in the World.

HMCS Sackville gained recognition for engaging three U-boats at sea. Although she sustained heavy damage, Sackville was retained for post-war service, first as a training ship and after-wards as a research vessel for the Bedford Institute of Oceanography. In 1982, she was acquired by The Canadian Naval Memorial and reconverted to her original state in 1994. Today, as the last surviving corvette, Sackville serves as The Canadian Naval Memorial, a living museum dedicated to the courageous people who have served in Canada's navy. She is berthed at the Sackville Landing Wharf, Lower Water Street in Halifax (Nova Scotia).

Specifications:
Item number: 105793
Mintage: 55,000
Finish: Proof
Certificate: Serialized

Proof Dollar:
Composition: 92.5% Silver, 7.5% Copper
Weight(g): 25.175
Diameter (mm): 36.07
Edge: Reeded

2 Dollar:
Composition: 92.5% Silver, 7.5% Copper
Weight(g): 8.83
Diameter (mm): 28.0
Edge: Interrupted Serrations

1 Dollar:
Composition: Nickel electroplated with bronze
Weight(g): 7.0
Diameter (mm): 26.50 11-Sided
Edge: Plain

50 Cents:
Composition: 92.5% Silver, 7.5% Copper
Weight(g): 9.3
Diameter (mm): 27.13
Edge: Reeded

25 Cents:
Composition: 92.5% Silver, 7.5% Copper
Weight(g): 5.9
Diameter (mm): 23.88
Edge: Reeded

10 Cents:
Composition: 92.5% Silver, 7.5% Copper
Weight(g): 2.4
Diameter (mm): 18.05
Edge: Reeded

5 Cents:
Composition: 92.5% Silver, 7.5% Copper
Weight(g): 5.35
Diameter (mm): 21.20
Edge: Plain

1 Cents:
Composition: Copper
Weight(g): 2.5
Diameter (mm): 19.1
Edge: Plain

Special Features:
The coin features HMCS Sackville, the last surviving corvette and living memorial to the Royal Canadian Navy, its pennant number (K-181) clearly visible on its hull.

The Canadian Navy's motto (Ready Aye Ready/Pret Oui Pret) in Morse code surrounds the design.

It is the third set to feature the commemorative silver dollar selectively gold plated on the reverse and the edge.

The elegant book-style packaging, with removable lens, splendidly complements these fine coins.

Packaging:
CD lens concept with maroon outer cover and black set-up box

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0967/3447/8468/files/thumb0_2513__06490.1361070242.1280.1280.jpg?v=1759512236
